Weligama is a town on the south coast of Sri Lanka, located in Matara District, Southern Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. The name Weligama, literally means "sandy village" which refers to the area's sandy sweep bay. It is approximately 144 kilometres (89 mi) south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 9 metres (30 ft) above the sea level.

As you explore Weligama, you will be captivated by its natural beauty, from the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean to the lush greenery of the surrounding hills. The town's sandy beaches are perfect for sunbathing, swimming, or surfing, and you can easily rent a surfboard and hit the waves.

Weligama is also home to a bustling fishing harbor where you can witness the daily catch being brought in and even try your hand at fishing with the locals. The town is rich in history, and you can visit the Kushtarajagala statue, a 12th-century carved Buddha, or explore the ancient rock temple of Mulgirigala.
